Laverne & Shirley actor Eddie Meka has passed away at the age of 69.
Mekka, who was famous for his role Carmine Ragusa on the show, was found dead at his California home on Saturday, his brother Warren Mekjian told TMZ on Thursday.
He also said that his brother had been taken to a hospital for blood cots and could barely walk before his death.
According to the report, neighbors and friends have become concerned when they had not heard from the actor in many days.
Neighbors then called the police and when officers arrived at his home for a welfare check, they found Mekka lifeless.
There is no indication that foul play was involved or his death was suspicious.
In a heartbreaking post on Twitter, Mekka’s co-star Cindy Williams – who played Shirley in the show – said: “My darling Eddie, A world-class talent who could do it all. I love you dearly. I’ll miss you so much. But oh the marvelous memories…”
On the hit television sitcom, Mekka played on-off boyfriend Carmine, a boxer nicknamed ‘The Big Ragoo’ but dreams of becoming a singer until he lands a gig in Hair on Broadway.
Aside from Laverne & Shirley, Mekke also appeared on TV shows such as ABC hit Family Matters, The Love Boat, and Fantasy Island.
One fan wrote: “I loved his character. He was a singing, dancing, boxing bad@$$. I always wished they had developed his character more. RIP.”
Another said: “My sister had the biggest crush on him back then. She’d cut pictures from magazines and put them on her wall :( I hope The Big Ragu finds her in Heaven and gives her a hug.”
A third added: “Always enjoyed when Carmine was in the scene! Loved when he broke out singing “Stranger in Paradise” His character loved Tony Bennett ..Aww..RIP.”
