The owner of the building where James and Jennifer Crumbley were arrested has been interviewed by the police.
The Crumbleys were declared fugitives on Friday after failing to meet the deadline to turn themselves in to face their arraignment. On the following day, the parents of school shooter Ethan Crumbley were arrested in Detroit after taking refuge in an art studio owned by 65-year-old Andrzej Sikora.
While the man was previously accused of abetting the couple, his lawyer, Clarence Dass, now confirmed that he was extensively interviewed and that he continues cooperating with the authorities.
Dass also insisted that Sikora knew the couple but “not well” and that he “did not really know what was going on.” The attorney further claimed that Sikora wasn’t aware there were active warrants for their arrest.
“Sheriff’s Detectives went to Sikora’s Troy home and executed a search warrant, seizing several digital devices for examination.
The information will then be presented to prosecutors to determine if charges are appropriate,” Oakland County Undersheriff Michael G.
McCabe confirmed in a statement obtained by CNN after Sikora was interviewed and after his home was searched. As of this writing, Sikora is not facing any charges.
“Mr. Sikora fully cooperated and answered all of law enforcement’s questions. Mr. Sikora did not assist the Crumbleys in evading law enforcement, did not know there was a warrant for their arrest, and did not know they were at his art studio at the time of their arrest,” Dass said.
“He has not been charged with any crime, and will continue to assist members of law enforcement in their pursuit of justice.”
