A woman who ‘dreamed’ of becoming a mother has passed away shortly after giving birth to her twins.
Larissa Blanco from Brazil gave birth to twins baby Gustavo and Guilherme at a hospital in Sao Paulo. Sadly, the mother, who had tested positive for coronavirus on June 12, suffered a massive bleed which resulted in a cardiac arrest.
Larissa suffered flu-like symptoms and was admitted to hospital on June 26 but her health quickly deteriorated. She was then transferred to Botucatau hospital and went into labor.
Her husband, Diego, also tested positive for Covid-19 but has managed to recover. He said his wife “saw that wonderful little face and I was really emotional, that was her dream,” according to local media.
But after a minor complication, Larissa had suffered a hemorrhage and needed a blood transfusion as she was ‘not managing to pull through.’
But despite doctors’ efforts to save her, Larissa suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away.
“The doctor said that because of COVID her body could not take it,” Diego said. “God let her leave two little angles for me to look after, to give me strength. I cried so much when I first saw them, it was the most beautiful thing.”
The new father is still in the hospital with his children who are being monitored.
Larissa is one of the more than 60,000 COVID-19 victims in Brazil as the nation struggles to stop the virus from spreading. It is the second-worst affected country in the world for both fatalities and cases, after the U.S.
