A husband has shared how he wished that he did not visit his in-laws because they made him feel like he was a babysitter.

The husband took to Reddit and explained that he and his wife and their four children would spend time with her family during Christmas.

However, he was always left disappointed as his wife would always go out partying with her family while he looked after their kids.

“I told my wife I was growing tired of doing this and at first she would help me out but last year she essentially told me that I needed to get over it and ‘take one for the team’ so she can enjoy Christmas with her family,” he wrote on Reddit.

“This year I told her if I’m going to end up babysitting then I’m not going.

“She told me ‘I’ll do my best but I can’t guarantee anything’.”

He continued: “So here I am sitting by myself as she goes to celebrate Christmas Eve with her family.”

Reddit users were quick to share their thoughts, with one commenting: “If the others aren’t willing to do their share of the workload, you don’t have to accommodate them. This is a good way to highlight how much work they dump on you.”

Another wrote: “So when you’re with her family, all of a sudden her responsibility as a parent just goes away and you need to ‘take one for the team?’

“She needs to help! Heck, the parents of the children should help! It shouldn’t all fall onto you.”

A third said: “Let’s she how she likes it when she gets stuck with babysitting her kids and other kids too. Take this moment to step back and relax.”
