A massive earthquake has just struck the Pacific Ocean between the islands of Fiji and Tonga.
The giant natural disaster hit the islands at about 7:40 pm local time, just about 13o miles away from the island of Lifuka.
This heartbreaking news comes just weeks after a massive volcanic eruption and tsunami struck the exact same location, causing mass-scale devastation.
Thankfully, today’s giant earthquake did not manage to trigger any tsunami and that means the damage would most likely be less severe than that which took place weeks before.
At the moment, there is no exact or clear word regarding the damage that this earthquake has managed to cause on Thursday as experts claim that the local communication lines in the region have been badly disrupted as a result of the aftermath.
The news comes after the natural disaster led to massive damage to an underwater internet cable that is currently being repaired as revealed by local media outlets.
Reports from the Nation Weather Service have confirmed the absence of any Tsunami.
Meanwhile, the south pacific island of Tonga is still in the midst of recovering from the devastation that occurred after the giant Hunga-Tonga volcano erupted, that erupted on the 14 of January and rocked the entire nation and its residents.
Many were seen fleeing for safety as huge waves washed away hundreds of houses in the region.
This giant volcano is mostly present underwater with only the tip of its peak being visible from ground level.
After the explosion that took place, the volcano’s tip was completely destroyed and it triggered a giant 50 ft tsunami which smashed Tonga’s islands, causing the destruction.
Survivors from the previous tragedy stated how so many people were forced to live underneath tarpaulins as the death toll reached six. State officials fear that it would rise as they tried to clear the outskirts of the islands to help tally the missing.
