According to experts, Prince William and Prince Harry were annoyed at their father, Prince Charles, as he pushed his wife to be a Queen.
In her Platinum Jubilee speech, Queen Elizabeth already expressed her sincere wish for the Duchess of Cornwall to be known as Queen Consort when Prince Charles is crowned as King. Speculations surrounded the role for years and it has been uncertain what Camilla’s office title would be following her husband’s coronation.
The monarch’s seal of approval comes as she prepares to celebrate the milestone of her 70th year on the throne. Under the coronation section of the official Royal Family website, it details that the title typically granted to a ruling king’s spouse is “queen consort”.
Prince Charles said: “On this historic day, my wife and I join you all in congratulating Her Majesty the Queen on the remarkable achievement of serving this nation, the realms, and Commonwealth for 70 years.”
He continued: “The Queen’s devotion to the welfare of all her people inspires still greater admiration with each passing year.
We are deeply conscious of the honor represented by my mother’s wish.
As we have sought together to serve and support Her Majesty and the people of our communities, my darling wife has been my own steadfast support throughout. ”“The year of this unprecedented Platinum Jubilee brings an opportunity for us all to come together in celebrating the service of the Queen, by whose example we will continue to be led in the years to come,” he added.
In 2017, Queen Elizabeth II already approved her son’s plan to make Camilla his queen. Five years ago, it is reported that Prince Charles has changed some of his coronation vows to include Queen Camilla with Queen Elizabeth’s blessing.
On the other hand, Princess Diana’s sons Prince Harry and Prince William were reportedly not happy and will not support their father’s plan to see his wife Camilla as Queen.
In December, Royal author Robert Lacey claimed that Prince William and Prince Harry were “SICK” of their father’s decision as he advocated for Camilla to become Queen consort.
On Newsweek, Lacey said: “Privately I discovered both brothers are absolutely sick of the back teeth of Charles trying to negotiate full status for Camilla.”
Penny Junor, the author of Camilla’s authorized biography, told Newsweek: “I think she should be Queen. There’s no reason on earth why she shouldn’t be. They were both divorcees and the past was unfortunate. It happened. All over the world people divorce, they make mistakes and they divorce.”
“She’s been married to him 16 years. She has been a superb duchess. She has slowly, slowly worked her way into the role. There’s no sense that she’s in competition with him. She’s put her name to some very brave causes,” she added.
Newsweek also quoted a YouGov poll that showed only 13% of people in the UK would want Camilla to be a Queen consort, compared to 41% who want her to be a princess consort. While 26% of respondents believe she should have no title at all.
Prince William and Kate Middleton were reportedly taken into confidence by the Queen before making their announcement. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have already offered their congratulations to Camilla.
While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not shared any words publicly about the move.
