Elon Musk’s leading tech giant Neuralink hopes to implant computer chips into the brains of human beings, as early as this year.
According to local media reports, the news comes following a long series of experiments that involved brain chips being loaded into macaque monkeys.
Now, the primate experiments which were conducted in true partnership with UC Davis are being hailed as revolutionary and successful with the company going as far as mentioning how no abuse was conducted on the animals.
But at the same time, controversy has surrounded Neuralink’s claims as one animal right’s association has stated that so many monkeys had undergone abuse of the worst kind during this range of experiments.
For this reason, the organization is going as far as lodging a major complaint with the American Department of Agriculture, adding how the university had violated the entire Animal Welfare Act.
But UC Davis, where the experiments were conducted, denies those allegations. They claim to have followed strict protocols and acted in a lawful manner and fully complied with all of the laws and regulations in place.
In the same way, Neuralink denies claims relating to abuse, adding how animals are currently in its care and are being observed very carefully to ensure their well-being, in regards to the highest standards involved.
At the moment, the biotech firm is busy developing the brain-computer interface that it believes will make humans hyper-intelligent. In the same way, other revolutionary claims surround the act of making paralyzed people walk again like normal individuals.
Neuralink claims to be working under extreme care and precision and despite what other bodies may claim, they continue to stand by their approach of carrying out research on animals before they can be trialed in an ethical manner on humans.
