Russia’s advances have significantly slowed down as ‘demoralized’ soldiers suffer heavy losses, Kyiv’s commanders claimed.
This forced Russian troops to indiscriminate attacks on civilians, killing and injuring many children overnight.
Dmytro Zhyvytsky, the head of the military administration in Sumy city, said more than 10 people were killed and many others injured after airstrikes struck civilian areas after 11 pm.
Russia said it will open up ‘humanitarian corridors’ to let civilians flee besieged cities but the offer has been dismissed by the Ukraine capital Kyiv.
President Volodymyr Zelensky also accused Moscow of ‘cynicism,’ saying that its soldiers have blown up buses for transports and planted mines across the routes.
In a video posted on Telegram, Zelensky said: “There was an agreement on humanitarian corridors. Did that work? Russian tanks worked in its place, Russian Grads (multiple rocket launchers), Russian mines.”
Zelensky continued: “They ensure that a small corridor to the occupied territory is open for a few dozen people.
“Not so much towards Russia as towards the propagandists, directly towards the television camera.”
The mayor of Bucha said the city is under such heavy shelling that medics can’t go to the streets to get the bodies of the dead, adding dogs were eating the remains.
“It’s a nightmare,” he expressed.
Ukraine’s military said Russian advances have ‘slowed down’ even though US intelligence said Russia has committed ‘100 percent’ of the force.
Defensive operations continue in the north, south, and east of Ukraine, with all major cities – except for Kherson – under Ukraine’s control.
Commanders also said that Russian troops are ‘demoralized and increasingly tend to looting and violations of international humanitarian law.’
