Forbes is reportedly in the hot seat after it chose to use the terms ‘pregnant people’ instead of ‘pregnant women’ in its latest health story feature about COVID-19.
According to local media reports, Forbes is facing intense backlash over the latest story which is said to be about the complications relating to COVID and how they can arise in women that are expecting.
The incident took place on Thursday and that’s when the leading company tweeted a link that was affiliated with the article.
The article spoke about how COVID-19 doubles the risk that pregnant women have in terms of complications relating to childbirth.
The exact statement was mentioned as follows in the Tweet that has now caused a major online debate on social media:
“Pregnant people who contracted COVID-19 are more than twice as likely to have great complications as compared to those that didn’t have the virus during their first year of being in the pandemic, as revealed in a new study”- the tweet mentioned with a link attached to the article.
While it may just be one word to some, it was definitely an entirely different context for so many others who felt that the use of pregnant people was unnecessary and should have been restricted to just pregnant women.
The incident has managed to come with intense backlash and uproar with a long chain of comments appearing on the subject.
“The word you are looking for is females or women”- mentioned one commenter. Similarly, another furious individual spoke about how the company was struggling to use simple terms like women, adding how it was certainly not that hard to type.
On the other hand, others spoke about how the risk factor is solely limited to women and that should be stated boldly.
“It’s a women’s health issue so please keep that in mind”- another wrote.
