Comedian Chris Rock has officially declined to press any criminal charges against actor Will Smith despite being slapped during a live Oscars broadcast.
According to local media reports, the 57-year-old comedian declined to pursue any further charges against the 53-year-old actor, despite being stunned by Smith’s behavior during the renowned Academy Awards ceremony.
Will Smith was seen marching toward the stage, moments after Rock cracked a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.
The actor seemed furious and could be seen yelling, leave my wife alone. But the comedian tried to defend his position by stating that it was just a joke and nothing more.
Despite being struck, Chris Rock kept his cool and could be seen carrying on with his role of presenting the award for the ‘Best Documentary’ category.
Many Hollywood celebs were quick to come to Rock’s defense, adding how Smith’s behavior was beyond outrageous and should be condemned.
Although Will Smith apologized for his incredibly shocking and wild actions while receiving his award for ‘Best Actor’ for the night, many still felt that was not good enough.
A recent statement was announced by the Los Angeles Police Department in regards to the incident, where they boldly confirmed how Chris Rock had declined to press any charges of assault against Will Smith.
“The individual who is involved has reportedly declined to file a police report. If the involved party wishes to file a police report at some later date, then the LAPD will be available to complete one investigative report”- the police elaborated in the statement.
After being slapped in the face in front of a live audience full of A-List celebs, Rock stated the following: “Will Smith just smacked the s**t out of me.”
