A mother-to-be has revealed that her husband wanted to name their twins after the creators of his favorite game Minecraft.
The 34-year-old woman is not keen on his name choices, Notch and Jeb, and said she’d rather get a divorce than letting her husband pick names for their babies.
Taking to Reddit, the expectant mom explained that her husband is ‘a big Minecraft fan,’ who ‘builds stuff on the game a lot and has Minecraft posters.’
“I told my husband that I want to give our children regular names, not after Minecraft because they are not objects, and my husband got really defensive about it saying that he should be able to choose because he is their father and I never gave any name suggestions,” the wife wrote on Reddit.
“I will never name my children after Minecraft because I don’t want them to get bullied and feel like it’s dehumanizing to name them after a game.”
However, her husband was sticking firm to his name choices.
“I told my husband that I’d rather get a divorce than name our kids after Minecraft and he got really angry and raised his voice,” she continued.
“I’m pregnant and my hormones maybe made me really emotional because I started crying. A few hours after that, we calmed down and I asked him again and he said he will for sure name the kids Notch and Jeb.”
People on Reddit have urged the pregnant mother to stay strong, with one person writing: “If he’s refusing to compromise on this, that’s a gigantic red flag for your relationship. I know we’re just strangers on the internet who don’t know your life, but holy heck how irresponsible can you be to insist on video game names and not even take the mother of the children’s opinion into account.
“That reeks of utter disrespect towards you that will likely filter into other areas of yours and your children’s life.”
Another commented: “Start looking up names you like and suggesting those, but tell him Notch and Jeb are absolutely not going to be their names and you will not compromise on those two names.
“He is their father and he does get a say, but a say is very different than naming them outright when you explicitly said ‘not those names’. You are their mother and have as much a say in this as he does.”
