Terrifying reports are coming in about the sinking of a giant ship off the island of Santa Cruz in Ecuador recently.

 

Local media reports identified the exact location as the sensitive and ecologically fragile destination of the Galapagos. 

Sources added how the dispersant alongwith the containment barriers have been deployed for regulating the amount of damage that may have been done as coast guards rushed to the site.

The state-run Ecuadorian company for oil confirmed how the ship was doomed as it began to sink near Santa Cruz.

Authorities identified the ship as Albatroz which was known to be carrying 47 different diesel barrels, and it had resulted in a superficial slick, as reiterated by the country’s Environment ministry, 

The famous Galapagos Islands are renowned for their great biodiversity and which includes a number of unique wildlife species like tortoises and hammerhead sharks too. 

The company in charge of the ship said the emergency plan had been activated with plenty of containment set up around the area where the sinking disaster has taken place. 

Thankfully, all four crew members aboard the sinking ship have managed to escape to safety as confirmed by the company’s spokesperson.

A recent post on Twitter spoke in detail about how the National Park’s official account revealed how a dispersing agent was being allocated that is known to minimize the effects of the disaster on the environment. 

Images from the islands struck to show how beautiful it is and how it is renowned as a UNESCO National World Heritage Site for wildlife and stunning marine life. Moreover, it has even been dubbed as the only place on the earth that houses thousands of species.
