I grew up in a house with two other siblings.
As the youngest and the only girl, I always understood how precious it was to have my own room. I felt like I had to share everything with my older siblings, whether I wanted to or not, and having a dedicated space to call my own was essential.
But not many families have the money or the space to have individual bedrooms for all of their children. Some parents have to get creative finding ways to create private spaces for their kids.
One mom, known at Clutterbug online, did just that, all while following a strict budget.

Her two daughters shared a small room on the top floor of their home. The cramped space led to many fights and the daughters constantly getting on each other’s nerves. The room was just too small for the two of them.
But what could mom do to solve this problem, besides moving to a bigger house?
As any thrifty mom knows, sometimes you can find creative solutions to problems that seem unsolvable, especially when you don’t have a lot of money to spend. This mom decided to take a trip to Ikea and transform one room into two.

She used space in the basement and divided it with shelving and organizers for the girls. While it’s still one room, it’s two distinct spaces with privacy.
She came up with a color theme for the room that’s black and white with a splash of color. She printed images off the internet and used frames she already had around the house. She found inexpensive pillows and added her own designs using iron-on transfer paper.
The older daughter has a lofted bed with a private space below that’s separated by curtains. This adds a touch of privacy so that both kids can be in the room but away from each other.

Finally, this super imaginative mom transformed the space by setting up curtain rods to make you think the windows are centered on each half of the room. The space not only looks beautiful, it’s also incredibly professional and does not look like it was done cheaply!
I wish that when I was a kid, I had a parent as inspired as this on! But I am definitely taking these pointers for redesigning my own home!
