A father has been slammed online for getting rid of his daughter’s beloved dog while she was spending the weekend with her mother.

Taking to Reddit, the man explained that she was only trying to appease his daughter when he welcomed a Pomeranian puppy to their home.

He said that he only agreed to adopt the pooch because his 13-year-old daughter promised to feed, walk, and clean up after it.

“Around two years ago I went through a divorce and ended up with my two kids,” the man wrote on Reddit. “Not long after moving into a new place my daughter said she wanted a dog.”

The father said that he didn’t want to get a dog as his son already had a cat but his daughter promised that she would look after the pooch.

“To her credit, she did a good job for the first year, taking it for walks, cleaning up after it, etc,” the father continued.

“The second year, however, she really dropped the ball. She started doing more extracurricular activities after school, hanging out with her friends, normal teenage girl stuff.”

The dad said that he was okay with the situation as long as she kept taking care of the pooch.

“I paid for all its food and vet care, all she had to do was walk it, clean up after it, and feed it,” he said. But after a year and a half, his daughter stopped caring for the pooch and left all the work for him.

“I had to constantly remind her to look after it as me and my son were the ones feeding it and cleaning up after it as she would leave urine to the point it dried on the floor and its feces until it stunk out my whole place.”

The father said that he and his daughter argued so many times because she can’t take care of her pooch, so he decided to create an adoption advertisement for the dog.

He explained that he did not want money for the Pomeranian. He just wanted a family that would take care of it and love it.

“I went out to see multiple families and decided to give it to one with two young daughters – aged nine and 11 – with a huge backyard for the dog to run around and play in.

“I did this while my daughter was away with her mother for the weekend.”

“I, of course, expected backlash when she eventually got home and found out what I had done, but her reaction went well beyond my imagination,” he said. “The screaming and throwing of things were like something from a movie. She moved out that day and told me she never wanted to see or speak with me ever again.”

Many people on Reddit thought that the father was in the wrong for rehoming the dog without his daughter’s permission.

“I understand why you wanted to rehome the dog, and it sounds like your daughter was being pretty irresponsible. But to do it while she’s away, without telling her beforehand is cruel,” one person wrote.

“I’d say rehoming the dog without first discussing the issues and coming up with a plan of action is a bad move,” another said.
