Social media users are having a hard time holding back their excitement after the jury reached a verdict in the blockbuster Depp-Heard trial.
On Wednesday, Depp has officially reclaimed his honor and regained control of his life after the jury in his blockbuster defamation case ruled in his favor.
Following the ruling, the judge has ordered Amber Heard to pay the Pirates of the Caribbean star a total of $10.
35 million in compensatory and punitive damages, whereas the actress was only awarded $2 million in compensatory damages as part of her $100 million countersuit, meaning she will have to pay Depp a total of $8.
35 million.Since Johnny’s legal win, social media has become flooded with memes, jokes, and messages supporting the actor and the outcome of the trial.
“He won in the court of public opinion. He won in the court of law. Justice has been served and now he can finally have his name and reputation back,” one Twitter user wrote under the trending #TruthWins hashtag.
“Amber Heard and the outrage machine got Johnny Depp canceled over outright lies. But he had the resources to fight back. And after years of fighting, he won,” another said.
The third expressed: “He did it, he won! His voice has been heard and he’s gotten justice! I’m so unbelievably proud of you Johnny!”
Weighing in on the matter was also British commentator and broadcaster Piers Morgan who called the verdict an “absolute slam-dunk for Johnny Depp” and a “total wipe-out for Amber Heard.”
Since the verdict has been announced, Depp has spoken out and thanked the jury for giving him his life back.
“Six years ago, my life, the life of my children, the lives of those closest to me, and also, the lives of the people who for many, many years have supported and believed in me were forever changed,” the actor wrote in a statement.
“And six years later, the jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled.”
Meanwhile, Amber Heard slammed the verdict and called it a setback for women.
“The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband,” she said.
“I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.”
