Johnny Depp has announced a full-length album featuring covers and originals set to be released this July.
Teaming up with legendary British guitarist Jeff Beck to focus on his music career, the Pirates of the Caribbean star is looking forward to releasing an album titled ‘18’.
According to the reports, the brand-new studio album will feature 13 tracks including eleven covers of classic songs from the likes of John Lennon and Marvin Gaye and two Depp originals.
The album is set to be released digitally and on CD this July 15.
“It’s an extraordinary honor to play and write music with Jeff, one of the true greats and someone I am now privileged enough to call my brother,” the actor and singer said in a joint statement.
Beck added: “When Johnny and I started playing together, it really ignited our youthful spirit and creativity. We would joke about how we felt 18 again so that just became the album title too.”
Inspired and reenergized, the pair decided to use a drawing of themselves looking 18 years old for the cover of their upcoming album.
It has since come to light that the illustration was created by Beck’s wife, Sandra.
Releasing an album together with the guitarist icon could very well mean dreams come true for Depp who grew up listening to the musicians’ hits.
Beck and Depp first met in 2016 when they quickly connected thanks to their shared love for music and cars. Years later, Beck performed the ‘Welcome To Bushwacker’ song which was released by Depp’s band, Hollywood Vampires, in 2019.
This year, the pair reunited for a UK tour and quickly found joy in performing by each other’s side.
“I haven’t had another creative partner like him for ages. He was a major force on this record. I just hope people will take him seriously as a musician because it’s a hard thing for some people to accept that Johnny Depp can sing rock and roll,” Beck added.
