A young girl who was missing for more than two years was found alive and well in a “dark” and “wet” room at her parents’ apartment.
6-year-old Paislee Shultis was abducted by her own parents back in 2019 after her mother and father lost custody of her for undisclosed reasons.
After kidnapping the child from her assigned guardians, the girl’s biological parents, Kim Cooper and Kirk Shultis, went on a run and managed to hide from the authorities for three years.
Now, however, the police in upstate New York arrested the couple after receiving a tip suggesting that the girl was living with her fugitive parents at a home in Saugerties.
After raiding the residence in question, the police discovered a small and dirty makeshift room under the stairs and found Paislee inside.
Following the shocking discovery, the police arrested the girl’s parents and Shultis’ father who was allegedly also living in the same house.
While Cooper remains in custody, Shultis and his father have since their arrest already been released on bail. Shultis has since spoken to the media only to claim that “the truth will come out” soon.
Though Cooper and Shultis have not been charged with kidnapping their daughter as of this writing, they are facing the charges of custody interference and endangering a child’s welfare.
It has since the disturbing find also come to light that it was Detective Erik Thiele who found the child after he “noticed something about the staircase leading from the back of the residence into the basement of the house that caught his attention.”
“Detectives used a tool to remove several of the wooden steps, and that is when detectives saw a pair of tiny feet,” the police revealed in a statement. “After removing several more steps, the child and her abductor were discovered within.”
