Chinese scientists allegedly detected mysterious signals from space that could come from an alien civilization.
The electromagnetic signals in question were detected by Sky Eye, a massive telescope located in Guizhou, China, and could have alien origins according to experts.
The extraordinary find was presented in the Ministry of Science and Technology’s official newspaper – Science and Technology Daily.
As Bloomberg has since revealed, the report was deleted and silenced shortly after appearing in the newspaper and on social media.
It is currently unclear if the Chinese government was behind the hushing of the report and why.
“Sky Eye telescope may have picked up signs of life beyond Earth, according to a report by the state-backed Science and Technology Daily, which then appeared to have deleted the report and posts about the discovery,” Bloomberg stated.
“The news had already started trending on social network Weibo and was picked up by other media outlets, including state-run ones.”
According to the report based on the findings of the chief scientist of the search for extraterrestrial life, Zhang Tonjie, two sets of electromagnetic signals were detected in 2019 and another in 2022.
The unusual detection was reportedly made as the satellite was observing planets outside of our solar system.
While the scientists claimed the signals could be made by an alien civilization, he noted they could also be a result of radio interference or Earth’s radio pollution as he explained more research is needed before drawing any conclusions.
While Earthers have been on the hunt for extraterrestrial life for millennia without much success, it is entirely possible that life flourishes elsewhere in other parts of the vast universe.
“While no clear signs of life have ever been detected, the possibility of extraterrestrial biology – the scientific logic that supports it – has grown increasingly plausible,” NASA says.
