Men are reportedly rushing to get a vasectomy after the controversial overturning of the Roe v Wade case.
Following SCOTUS’ decision to overturn the 1973 case that provided rights to abortion to women across the States, ‘pro-choice’ protests have erupted in right-wing states that are likely to limit abortion rights or ban abortion altogether following the ruling.
Several doctors have since also spoken out and revealed that there has been a massive increase in demand for a vasectomy after the June 24 overturning.
As Dr. Doug Stein, who is also known as the Vasectomy King, told The Washington Post, he previously received four to five vasectomy requests per day. In the last few days, however, he has allegedly been getting as many as 18 requests per day.
“It was very noticeable Friday, and then the number that came in over the weekend was huge and the number that is still coming in far exceeds what we have experienced in the past,” the doctor explained.
He went on to insist that most of his patients were already thinking about getting a vasectomy before and that the recent ruling was enough to “tip them over the edge.”
“Many of the guys are saying that they have been thinking about a vasectomy for a while, and the Roe v. Wade decision was just that final factor that tipped them over the edge and made them submit the online registration,” Stein added.
With a huge increase in demand for vasectomy, Stein is reportedly already fully booked through the months of July and August.
Weighing in on the matter was also Stein’s colleague, Dr. John Curington, who confirmed a sudden surge in requests for vasectomy following the end of Roe v. Wade.
“I’d say at least 60 to 70 percent are mentioning the Supreme Court decision,” he told the publication when asked about the reason behind the increase.
