Non-binary Demi Lovato has updated her list of preferred pronouns and called herself “such a fluid person” as she had yet another change of heart.
The 29-year-old singer, who last year revealed she was non-binary and prefers they/them pronouns, now once again feels like a female and wishes to welcome back she/her pronouns.
Speaking out on Spout Podcast, Lovato admitted she now wants to use both she/her as well as they/them pronouns.
“I’ve actually adopted the pronouns of she/her again with me. So for me, I’m such a fluid person that I don’t really and I don’t find that I am,” the ‘Confident’ hitmaker said.
“I felt like, especially last year, my energy was balanced and my masculine and feminine energy so that when I was faced with the choice of walking into a bathroom and it said, women and men, I didn’t feel like there was a bathroom for me because I didn’t feel necessarily like a woman.”
The 29-year-old continued: “I didn’t feel like a man. I just felt like a human. And that’s what they/them is about. For me, it’s just about like feeling human at your core.”
Despite staying neutral when it comes to gender for more than a year, the singer now admitted she is again feeling more feminine which led her to adopt she/her pronouns again.
Remaining true to her non-binary status, however, she also decided to keep they/them pronouns as she updated her Instagram profile.
“I think what’s important is, like, nobody’s perfect. Everyone messes up pronouns at some point, and especially when people are learning, it’s just all about respect,” Lovato said.
The change of heart comes a year after Demi surprised her followers on Twitter as she came out as non-binary.
“Over the past year-and-a-half I’ve been doing some healing and self-reflective work, and through this work I’ve had the revelation that I identify as non-binary,” the singer previously admitted.
“With that said, I’ll be officially changing my pronouns to they/them. I feel that this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and still am discovering.”
