An annoyed couple took their neighbors and their loud rooster to court after being “tortured” by the animal’s crowing for years.
Jutta and Friedrich-Wilhelm K. from Germany have had their fill of bird sounds after being forced to listen to their neighbors’ rooster, Magda, cock-a-doodle-dooing from morning to evening.
According to the couple, the annoying cockerel starts his routine at 8 in the morning and goes all day without shutting up.
They also insisted that the bird sometimes crows up to 200 times a day and that they have begun logging the instances in their rooster journal.
In a bid to get rid of the loud bird, the couple has since taken their neighbors to court and demanded the rooster be relocated.
“We can’t use the garden and we can’t open any windows,” Friedrich-Wilhelm said.
“He doesn’t start until 8 am because he is locked up at night but then he crows 100 to 200 times throughout the day. It’s unbearable.”
Comparing the sounds to torture, Jutta added: “It’s hard to talk about torture, but that’s what it’s like.”
Representing the couple in their bizarre legal fight to have the rooster relocated, attorney Torsten Gieseke insisted that “a cockerel doesn’t belong on a quiet housing estate.”
Magda’s owner, 50-year-old Michael D., however, clearly disagrees.
“The hens need the rooster, otherwise they would pluck each other,” he said as he argued that the rooster must stay.
Since no agreement could be reached for years, the elderly couple decided to fight back and let the court decide who was in the right.
“We really did a lot of tests. Our kids tried, our neighbors tried. The neighbor doesn’t give up his rooster and we have to either live with that, or we have to win in court,” Friedrich-Wilhelm added.
