A woman has shared how her mother-in-law blasted her on social media after visiting them for a meal.
Now, she’s wondering if she was in the wrong for getting mad at her husband’s mother as she was left starving at the end of the day.
Taking to Reddit, the pregnant woman explained that she prepared meatballs in gravy with broccoli, mashed potato, and homemade bread.
She then gave ‘generous portions’ to her mother-in-law, husband, and children before grabbing some clothes that were hanging outside.
But when she came back to eat, she was shocked that her portion had disappeared.
Her mother-in-law then explained that she ‘wanted some more’ and simply helped herself.
“I figure oh well. I’ll just grab some fast food a bit later or something because maybe she was super hungry. My bad for not cooking enough,” the woman wrote.
“But once she’s eaten what she wants, she asks for a container so she can take her extra portion home for dinner the next night,” the woman went on.
“I’m pretty annoyed at this point and mention that it was meant to be my dinner for that night, not her takeaway meal for the next night.
“She says ‘oh well you can eat it then’ and I reply with ‘no thank you’, and hand her a container. (I didn’t want to eat her leftovers.)”
After her mother-in-law left with her takeaway, the husband asked her if something was wrong.
She then explained that she was starving and also angry as she wasn’t able to eat any of the meal that she had cooked.
The husband then texted his mother and told her that she owed his wife an apology, but she replied furiously.
“She said that I acted like an a******, I should have cooked more and anticipated that she would take home a portion for the next day, she offered me what she didn’t eat and I didn’t want it.
“It’s not her fault and that I owe her an apology for my attitude and snarky comment. She’s also posting on social media about what happened and people are saying that I’m an a****** and a rude hostess.”
People on Reddit shared their thoughts on her situation, with one person writing: “Seriously, for the rest of our life if we were having dinner I would probably decline to allow her to stay citing that, ‘I didn’t make enough dinner to feed you for the rest of the week, so we don’t have enough for you to stay for dinner.’”
Another said: “She wanted to start this fight with you. She took all of the food before you had eaten any, and then demanded to take leftovers. She’s f****** with you. Don’t ever cook for her again.”
