A former teacher’s assistant at a school for students with emotional and behavioral difficulties has been charged with engaging multiple sexual activities with a 14-year-old student.
24-year-old Allyssa Gustafson from Illinois had her guilty plea accepted by Judge Roger Webber and she will be sentenced on October 30, according to News-Gazette.
In November 2019, the mother-of-two was charged with engaging in multiple sexual acts with the 14-year-old from August 1 to August 30.
Campaign police reportedly discovered photos that Gustafson sent to the teen that showed her in lingerie and in a bathing suit.
The former teacher’s assistant and the student had an alleged sexual encounter at the teen’s home, prosecutors revealed.
According to Assistant State’s Attorney Kristin Alferink, authorities had evidence that showed that the mother-of-two and the teen had met up to five times, WAND reported.
Gustafson and the teen are also said to have talked through Snapchat and Facebook Messenger. She would tell the student to delete their conversations and asked him to block him, Alferink said.
Her bail was dropped to $100,000 from $250,000 after her attorney, Mark Lipton, argued that she had been aware of the investigation and that she had been following instructions regarding her own child and the Department of Children and Family Services.
Circle Academy leaders said in a statement that their highest priority would “always be the well-being and safety of our students.
“In our schools, we strive to provide a supportive environment conducive to learning.
“As with all new hires, we conduct extensive background checks on our employees and have verified that all appropriate checks were completed in this case.”
