M&M fans are going wild as they are just discovering what the ‘m’ initials stand for after thinking it was inspired by ‘mmm’ sound.
Invented in the Us in 1941, the mouthwatering treat has become known for its crunchy shell exterior and velvety smooth chocolatey interior.
Most people thought the ‘m’ initials was just inspired by the ‘mmm’ sounds, but it actually came from the names of the two founders – Bruce Murrie and Forrest E. Mars Sr.
It was in the 1930s when Forrest Mars – who started Mars Inc. – thought of the brilliant idea for M&M’s after noticing people eating chocolate buttons with a hard shell to prevent their treats from melting.
He then worked with Bruce Murrie – the son of Hershey’s Chocolate’s president – to develop the iconic treat.
Since then, M&Ms remain to be a popular chocolate snack option on shelves.
People online were shocked to finally discover what the name of the popular treat really means, with one person commenting: “This is actually some info I haven’t seen before. Bravo.”
Another shared: “My neighbor growing up worked for Mars and always had chocolates and cool stuff like a little countertop gumball dispenser for M&Ms.”
A third said: “Always thought it was strange they’re called m&ms but only have w’s on them.”
Someone else wrote: “More & more, cause they are just too yummy to resist.”
M&Ms have been sold in over 100 countries since 2003, with varieties of new flavors and colors have been introduced over the years.
In 2017, Mars launched an M&Ms chocolate block that offers six different flavors – hazelnut, strawberry, crispy, milk, crispy, and crispy mint.
