A teenage girl has been arrested after robbing her grandmother and handing almost all of her cash to her fellow students.
According to the police, the 14-year-old girl in question emptied her grandmother’s safe – which contained some $13,500 in cash – before handing a large portion of the money to her classmates at Lake Weir Middle School in Summerfield, Florida.
While the motive for her actions remains unclear, the girl is said to have given a number of students several hundred dollars each.
When the police responded to Lake Weir Middle School following reports that one of the students was handing out large amounts of cash, the girl claimed that she was given the cash by a former student who wanted to disseminate the money.
During a search of her backpack, the police retrieved some $2,500 in cash, meaning that the girl had already handed out over $10,000 in cash before her arrest.
Out of that money, the police allegedly managed to retrieve just some $700.
Following further investigation into the bizarre crime, the police found out that the teenager stole her grandmother’s life savings which the elderly woman was keeping in a safe at her home.
Since the girl was arrested, the police returned $2,500 cash they managed to retrieve from the backpack along with $700 they retrieved from the students to the grandmother.
There is little hope, however, that the woman will ever see the remaining $10k she had been saving for years.
Following her arrest, the 14-year-old faces grand theft charges.
