Tragic reports are coming in from Tanzania where a passenger plane plunged into Lake Victoria, which is situated just 100 meters away from the airport.
Sources from local media outlets recently confirmed how 43 passengers were aboard the aircraft which is believed to have been affected by poor weather conditions across the board.
At least 19 people were reportedly killed in the devastating crash while other reports showed images of the plane being totally submerged inside the lake with just its tail showing.
An ongoing rescue mission is currently taking place in full swing in the country’s Kagera province. Meanwhile, other reports went on to speak about how the rescue workers were in contact with the pilots who were stuck inside the cockpit of the plane, right after the crash ensued.
Meanwhile, other rescue teams combined with local fishermen were doing everything in their power to try and pull the aircraft from the water by inspecting the wheels of the plane. They were trying to figure out if the wheels of the airline had hit the ground under the water.
And that would help to better determine if the aircraft would be able to be pushed outside the lake.
Recently, the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation released a new report that revealed how the aircraft was flying in a very unsteady manner while it made its way to come forward and reach the airport.
Considering the harsh weather conditions and causing poor visibility, it’s quite obvious that it may have been the main driving force behind this tragedy, a government spokesperson explained.
The country’s president was seen tweeting more details on the devastating incident while expressing his condolences to the families of the victims that were aboard that doomed flight that recently crashed.
“I send out my heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this incident so let’s all remain calm as this mega-rescue operation begins”- he concluded.
