Renowned singer Dua Lipa has opted to remove herself from the lineup of entertainers that would be performing at the opening ceremony of the FIFA world cup in Qatar.
The celeb took to her account on social media to clear the air and all the many speculations that surrounded her name in this regard. She says that all such reports that speak about her performance at the opening ceremony are fake and there is no truth to them.
The 27-year-old singer is a famous face in the world of music and is loved by millions. Therefore, the news is not going down too well with many who awaited her grand entry at the high-profile event in the Muslim nation.
And if that was not shocking enough, the celeb has even penned down some controversial thoughts about how such a performance would only be possible if the country that she was performing in improved its record in terms of human rights.
For those that may not be aware, Qatar is a small Muslim nation that has a lot of religious rules and regulations in place. This is the first time that such a diverse and large-scale sporting event is taking place. Hence, a lot of rules are being called out such as drinking, gambling, indecency, and the banned of gay and trans communities in the country as it goes against the country’s Shariah law.
Other controversies were related to the way the nation was treating its migrant workers and also the criminalization of same-gender couples that were under the spotlight.
Dua wrote on her social media post, ‘There is currently a lot of speculation about me performing at the FIFA World Cup Ceremony in Qatar and I’ve never been involved in such negotiations and neither do I intend to do so”- she continued.
