House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has recently announced that she is stepping down as the leader of the Democrats after a staggering period of 19 years.
The leader would no longer be given the title of House Speaker after losing her job, local media outlets revealed as this would be the end of her congressional leadership role after a staggering period of nearly two decades.
Pelosi was speaking on the House Floor and she says that she would like to remain a member of Congress and then serve out the term to which she was just elected.
The announcement then came a little less than a day after the news outlets projected the Democrats would narrowly lose their House Majority to the Republicans, moments after the midterm elections ensued.
She then mentioned how she wouldn’t be keen on seeking any reelection to her congressional leadership role. Let’s not forget she was the first person to lead the chamber.
Nancy Pelosi was speaking on the house floor when she made the announcement how she would be serving out the term that she was just recently elected.
“With this much confidence in our caucus, I will not be seeking reelection to Democratic leadership for the next Congress”- Pelosi explained.
“For me, there is an hour that has come for a new generation to lead the Democratic Congress that I so deeply respect!”- Nancy Pelosi mentioned.
Pelosi says she leaves on a high and is super grateful for being given the chance to shoulder such an immense responsibility. The news comes just one day after news outlets projected that Democrats would narrowly lose their House majority to Republicans following the midterm elections.
82-year-old Pelosi has further kept plans under wraps in the aftermath of the midterms and that’s when the Democrats exceeded the expectations of all others.
