Today is the day when the FIFA world cup kickstarts in Qatar amid a series of controversies and one of the latest has to do with FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s statements.
He was quick to blast all allegations of human rights abuse in Qatar as false and even went as far as mentioning how he has no regrets that the small Muslim nation had won the bid to host this year’s event.
In the same way, we could see him refute all sorts of allegations pertaining to fake fans and supporters making their way into the country to create more anticipation and hype for the event.
For that, he dubbed it pure racism.
And if that fiery speech from yesterday was not enough, he’s spoken about another shocking incident pertaining to how open he was to allow a nation like North Korea to host the next World Cup.The FIFA president who hails from Switzerland had admitted to paying a visit to North Korea in the past. And his motive was to determine whether or not that nation was even capable of hosting an event as grand as this. And shockingly, he saw nothing wrong with it.
He similarly said that if not an entire World Cup then perhaps a women’s tournament could be played there with fellow neighbors like South Korea hosting the event.
As mentioned by Infantino, FIFA is a global football organization and that means any nation from all around the globe had the right to host the tournament in the future hence we should be open and prepared to accept such news.
“I actually went to North Korea myself to see if they were keen on hosting a Women’s World Cup with South Korea. Well, I won’t lie that I was not successful with it but if I had to go there around 1000 times then I surely would”- he started to explain.
