Actor Chris Hemsworth has announced that he will be taking a time off acting so he can spend more time with his family after it was found out that he is at risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
The 39-year-old star has decided to take a break after finishing a press tour for his Disney+ docuseries Limitless.
Speaking to Vanity Fair after filming the last episode, which is about mortality and death, the Thor star said that he will be spending time with his family.
“Doing an episode on death and facing your own mortality made me, ‘Oh God, I’m not ready to go yet,’” Chris said.
The actor shares daughter India, 10, and twin Sasha and Tristan, 8, with wife Elsa Pataky, 46.
“I want to sit and be in this space with a greater sense of stillness and gratitude. And then you start talking about kids and family…” he continued.
The actor also said that something triggered in him that made him want to take a break.
“And since we finished the show, I have been completing the things I was already contracted to do,” Chris went on.
He and his wife returned to Australia on Monday via private jet.
The actor appeared to be relaxed as he walked across the tarmac at the Byron Bay airport near their home. He wore a plain white T-shirt and olive green pants he matched with a pair of white sneakers and a black cap.
Elsa sported a black hoodie, black tights and a pair of white sneakers.
This comes after Chris found out that he is 8 to 10 times more likely than an average person to develop Alzheimer’s disease.
In the fifth episode, he meets with Dr. Pete Attia and undergoes a series of genetic tests.
“We’ve got every blood test one can get,” the longevity physician told Chris in the show. “And you’ve got two copies of APOE4. A set from your mom and a set from your dad.”
APOE4 is the strongest risk factor gene for Alzheimer’s disease.
“The idea that I won’t be able to remember the life I experienced, or my wife, my kids, is probably my biggest fear,” Chris said in the episode.
Attia told the actor: “It’s my belief that if we take every step possible, we can reduce your risk to that of anyone else.”
