In what is being described as a historic first in the FIFA World Cup traditions, Iran’s national team was seen lining up on the field and showing zero respect while the country’s national anthem started to play.
And just in case that was not shocking enough, we saw the country’s own fans seated in the crowds and booing the anthem as it played full blast in the Qatari National Stadium.
Many people couldn’t believe their eyes and ears as the country got ready for a mighty faceoff match between England.
The opposite was the case with the English team who not only stood with absolute pride on the field and showed respect by singing but the fans were so patriotic and respectful too.
The sounds of audible boos and jeers were heard from a distance and it soon turned into a viral segment on social media where people had to share it with others.
In the same way, fans were seen waving banners in all directions while stands containing protesters were also witnessed at the event.
It appears that many of the players and crowds stood in solidarity against the acts against humanity taking place in the country where a woman was killed for not covering her head, leading to a wide array of protests across the board.
Iran is a country that has been wracked by around two months of anti-regime demonstrations. This was sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini who was reportedly tortured to death in police custody.
This is definitely being highlighted as one of the biggest and boldest moves across the board by any team at one of the world’s leading and most popular sports festivals.
