John Travolta has paid a heartbreaking tribute to Kirstie Alley after her sudden death on Monday.
Taking the world of entertainment by surprise, the children of the Cheers star announced her passing and revealed she had succumbed to cancer following a recent diagnosis.
Hollywood figures and fans alike have since taken to social media to pay the Emmy winner their tributes and recall her greatest successes in the industry.
Among the tributes was that of John Travolta whom Kirstie had a crush on for years after the two appeared together in three Look Who’s Talking movies.
“Kirstie was one of the most special relationships I’ve ever had. I love you Kirstie. I know we will see each other again,” the actor wrote as he shared a photo of the late movie star.
Alley previously opened up about her fondness for Travolta and admitted that she “almost ran off” and married him because she loved him.
“I think I kissed Travolta. I almost ran off and married John. I did love him, I still love him,” she said in 2018 during her appearance on Celebrity Big Brother U.K.
As sources previously suggested, however, the relationship never really kicked off because John “never saw her as a romantic interest in real life.”
“If I hadn’t been married I would’ve gone and married him and I would’ve been in an airplane because he has his own plane,” Alley added at the time.
As the actress admitted, neither she nor he acted on their romantic interests because at the time she was still married to Parker Stevenson whom she divorced in 1997.
Travolta’s tribute comes shortly after Kirstie’s children, True and Lillie Parker, announced their mother’s death in a joint statement.
“We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,” they wrote.
“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead. As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”
Lillie and True went on to thank the nurses and doctors who looked after their mother before praising her “zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals.”
