An Arizona father has been taken into police custody on the charges of child abuse after he allegedly bent his newborn baby backward until he heard a pop sound in an attempt to stop her from crying.
Adan Flores (22) was arrested on Friday after police were informed about the case by Phoenix Children’s Hospital about a one-month-old patient who was bleeding from the mouth.
Initially, Flores lied to the detectives and said that he and another family member sat on the baby by accident.
AZFamily.com revealed the court documents that state that the victim was bleeding from her mouth and eyes had broken legs, healing fractured ribs, and damaged liver.
In an audio-recorded interview with the police, Adan admitted to abusing his infant daughter. He said that he placed the baby on the bed while putting her on the knees and bending her back until he back cracked and made a popping noise.
The 22-year-old father also said that he did that same thing to the baby a day prior in an attempt to get her to stay quiet.
After further questioning, Flores admitted that he also twisted his baby’s leg until the bones popped and shoved the thermometer in the mouth aggressively.
Police reported that Flores said he regretted his action and felt guilty for doing such things to his infant daughter. Moreover, the document also claims that one of these incidents took place when the mother of the baby was in the shower.
Flores confessed that he did not take the baby to the hospital right away because he was afraid that the mother of the baby would find out and involve the Department of Child Safety. As of now, Flores is charged with child abuse on six counts and being held on bail for USD 100,000.
