A 3-year-old girl passed away after she fell unconscious while watching TV and eating snacks.
The male babysitter was charged after he surpassed a nearby hospital and drove hours away to a facility in Queens.
The child was taken to Cohen Children’s Medical Center around 7:15 pm. New York Police Department officers were informed that Anthony Richardson drove the girl to the hospital while she was unresponsive and unconscious.
Officers told PIX 11 that there were no signs of trauma.
According to some reports, the 3-year-old may have been infected with coronavirus. However, the Medical Examiner will determine the main cause of her death.
The girl’s grieving mother reportedly left her child under Richardson’s care.
Richardson had been watching the girl and another girl at his home in Mott Haven.
The two children were eating snacks and watching TV when the 3-year-old suddenly fell ill.
Richardson did not call 911 or take the girl to Lincoln Medical Center. He decided to load the kids into his car and drove hours to Cohen’s Children’s Medical Center in Queens.
When he was asked why he didn’t take the child to Lincoln Medical Center, he said that he felt the facility was not as good and the girl could get a better service somewhere else.
One internet user commented: “He probably wasn’t thinking clearly, calling an ambulance would have been best but…..I lived beside a couple of big Bronx hospitals, and I understand driving further to a better one, but when it’s a real emergency, time is crucial.”
Another wrote: “Maybe he wanted to take her to a children’s hospital. He should have called the ambulance.”
A third added: “Poor baby, so heartbreaking. God bless her and may she Rest In Peace.”
