A mother was forced to remove her daughter’s chalk drawing after a neighbor complained about their artwork to the landlord.
As Sam explained, her 5-year-old daughter, Sophie Gray, decided to pay a tribute to hardworking healthcare workers by drawing a rainbow, a symbol of hope amid these grim times, on the brick wall of her home.
While the mother didn’t think the chalk drawing would bother anyone, one neighbor apparently didn’t find it inspiring.
“I’d only just woken up when the estate agent rang up. She was really understanding. She said ‘we understand why you’ve done it, but we’ve got to act because the landlord has been in touch with us,’” the mum from Holbeach, England, recalled.
“It must be another neighbor who knows the landlord, because I don’t even know who the landlord is and this is a quiet cul-de-sac. You’ve got to be really sad to complain about a chalk drawing.”
As Sam added, little Sophie was very upset when they were forced to erase the drawing. Meanwhile, she “couldn’t understand why anyone would complain” about the innocent artwork.
While the agent later called the mother again in order to tell her she was allowed to keep the rainbow on the wall, the call came too late as the mum had already erased it.
Fortunately, however, one of Sophie’s neighbors decided to jump in and rescue the day by letting the 5-year-old draw on their wall.
“We haven’t got enough chalk to do another. But one of our neighbors is letting Sophie draw one on their wall,” Sam explained.
