Two weeks after a pastor’s wife went missing, a body has been found in her vehicle inside a shipping container in Arkansas.
Marilane Carter was last seen on August 2 when she went to Alabama to visit relatives and seek treatment for anxiety.
She later contacted her parents, informing them that she kept getting lost. They never heard from her again.
After a two-week search, her vehicle was found in a shipping container.
Her uncle found the remains when he went to Crittenden County to search for her and noticed that the door of the container in a remote field off Interstate 55 was open.
Authorities confirmed that the vehicle is Carter’s but the body hasn’t been identified as her.
Officers haven’t released the cause of death but do not suspect any foul play.
Chief Todd Grooms said: “I believe that anything that happened, happened by her own doing.”
The decomposing body was taken to the crime lab for an autopsy.
The Leawood Baptist Church, where Carter’s husband is a pastor, then shared a heartbreaking message on Facebook confirming her death.
“It is with very heavy hearts that we share that Marilane Carter has passed away. Her vehicle and body were found Tuesday in the West Memphis area. Law enforcement says that foul play is not suspected,” Leawood Baptist Church wrote.
“Please keep Pastor Adam and the children in your prayers,” the post added.
“Many of you have already been asking if there is anything else you can do to help the family at this time. The best thing that we can do right now is pray for them. They don’t have any immediate physical needs. If that changes, we’ll be sure to let the LBC Faith Family know.”
