A father has been arrested after he refused to break a car window to save his dying daughter.
27-year-old Sidney Deal has been charged with child abuse resulting in substantial bodily harm after he refused to smash the window of his hot vehicle to free his one-year-old daughter, Sayah.
He is being held on $20,000 bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
Deal from Las Vegas said he did not want to break the windows of his Nissan Altima as he was worried about the potential cost, The Daily Beast reported.
He told police officers that Sayah, who had been trapped in the car for more than an hour, had just fallen asleep and the air conditioner was on.
But by the officers managed to take the child out of the vehicle, she was already dead.
Deal’s mother, Artavia Wilson, told KLAS: “My son was not negligent the way he handled it.”
According to KTNV, Deal said to police that he accidentally locked the child in his vehicle after an argument with his girlfriend.
The woman told officers he returned to her only a few minutes after leaving with the child.
Deal also called his brother, Samid, who rushed to the scene and offered to smash a window to get the child. However, the father stopped him from breaking his car window as he was worried about repair costs.
Sadly, Sayah was already dead by the time the officers retrieved her from the vehicle.
