Prince Harry has laid out a few shocking facts in his explosive memoir and they’re raising plenty of eyebrows around the world.
The Duke of Sussex was quick to mention how he requested iconic singer Elton John to perform his hit number, ‘Candle in the Wind’ for his late mother’s death anniversary. But the response he got from the senior artist really left him dumbfounded.
He blatantly said no to Harry and that really took the Prince by storm. This was the same tune that Elton sang for the late Princess when she died and Harry thought it would be the most beautiful way to remember her with that same tune that captured so many hearts.
In the same way, he mentioned how the song had a strong emotional connection with a lot of people and it made sense as to why it would be chosen. But Elton clearly failed to see eye to eye on the matter.
The legendary performer instead opted to pick out another number called, ‘Your Song’ because he felt that would be so much more appropriate.
Writing down his thoughts in his new explosive memoir called Spare, the Duke of Sussex says that Elton referred to the song as too macabre and that left him without words. “It was my wish and he said no, I couldn’t do much about it!”- the Prince mentioned.
Elton John was a close friend of Harry’s late mother Prince Diana of Wales. He opted to sing a new ‘rewritten’ version for her at her funeral and that song really touched billions of hearts around the globe.
Today, that song is closely affiliated with Diana’s death and Harry says that it made sense to him as to why it would be perfect to mark her 25th death anniversary.
Elton has been very close to Diana’s sons after her death. He was similarly seen defending Harry and his wife Meghan after numerous attempts of character assassinations against both of them.
