A group of women had been kicked out of a hotel pool due to their actions, shaming a lesbian couple for kissing in front of their children.
Last Sunday at the Kimpton Sawyer Hotel, about five people had confronted the couple as onlookers watched the scene unfold. Video footage has been recorded and had gone viral, revealing the women chanting “shame” at the couple.
The women didn’t leave quietly, looking back at the angry crowd as they stormed off. They claimed that it wasn’t because of the couple’s sexual orientation that drove them to become angry, but it was because they were engaging in “what appeared to be sexual intercourse”.
One woman had confronted the bystanders and even gave the middle finger towards the camera, exclaiming, “Do you guys have children? Because you’d be a f***ing terrible dad.
You’re a f***ing loser.” As she storms off, Twitter users linked the scene that appeared in Game of Thrones, saying that it resembled the “walk of shame”.
Another bystander said they weren’t concerned with the couple’s sexual orientation, but they had reacted since they were engaging in inappropriate activity with minors in the setting.
Some members had politely asked the couple to tone down their activity, yet some women met them with aggressive attacks that were verbal.
Dominique Veasley, one of the girlfriends, had stated that there were other couples that had engaged in public displays of affection at the same time, yet they were the only ones who were targeted.
General Manager of the hotel, Nikki Carlson, releases a public statement that says that “The Sawyer does not condone discrimination or verbal assault of any kind. An unfortunate disagreement between guests occurred at our pool over the holiday weekend and the matter has since been resolved.
Kimpton, an individual a part of the LGBTQ+ community, posted several messages that celebrated the coming of Pride month on Twitter.
A post on the Pride websites reads, “Since our founding in san Francisco over three decades ago.. we’ve embraced the LGBTQ community and have made a commitment to helping affect positive change by partnering with organizations that can make a different.
”
The hotel chain had also donated meeting space and hosted fundraisers for the nonprofit organization, which provides crisis intervention for the LGBTQ+ youth.
