Meet Sri Ram the puppy and Bernie the calf, who became inseparable after finding a forever home.
This unlikely friendship between a puppy and a calf began when Juliana Castaneda, the founder and director of Juliana’a Animal Sanctuary in Colombia, found four abandoned puppies in the woods.
When she went back to home, Castaneda could not sleep because she was worried about them. So, she went back and got them. Eventually, Castaneda was able to find homes for three puppies when she travelled to the States. However, not for Sri Ram.

Being the smallest out of the four puppies, Sri Ram stayed at the sanctuary.
Meanwhile, a calf named Bernie was born on a dairy farm. Because he was a male, the owners did not want to keep him. But, they knew that if they give him to someone else, Bernie would be slaughtered for veal just like any other male calves. Since his owners wanted him to live a happy life, they contacted Castaneda.

And now, guess who became best friends?
Castaneda thinks part of the reason why they get along so well is because they are about the same age.
“Both are just kids,” said Castaneda. In fact,Sri Ram is 5-months-old, while Bernie is only about 3-months-old.
Sure, it may seem a bit odd to see this pair playing together, especially because of their size difference, but they do not seem to care.
“Bernie thinks he is a big dog and Sri Ram thinks Bernie is a big dog,” says Castaneda.
In fact, Castaneda says that Bernie like to snuggle with his human friends. He also loves to hop on the beds just like a dog.
Castaneda’s place really serves as a sanctuary to many animals including Bernie and Sri Ram.
Thankfully, Bernie and Sri Ram will be able to live long lives together with Castaneda’s family.
