A man has recalled the heartbreaking moment he came across an abandoned puppy who was using an old shoe for shelter.
Little Coco was on the verge of death when she was spotted fighting to survive Goran Marinkovic of Kraljevo, Serbia.
While Goran is known for bringing food wherever he goes so that he can feed hundreds of stray cats and dogs across the city, he eventually came across a scene that would change him forever.
“Passing a narrow pathway, I heard crying coming from the rocks. She was cold, hungry and thirsty. I had food, so right away I gave her salami,” the kind man told The Dodo.
The rescuer went on to reveal how the pup learned to use an old shoe as means of hiding herself from harsh weather conditions.
“She was exhausted. She knew that I might be her only chance, so she lay down and surrendered to fate,” Marinkovic added.
Knowing that the puppy likely didn’t have much time left due to her poor condition and the fact that she was all alone, Goran went on to take her home with him and give her another chance at life.
Months later, Coco became unrecognizable and her true spirit started showing. Goran then decided it was the right time to help her find a forever home.
After posting the pup’s story on the internet, the man was flooded with adoption requests. He then made sure to select the right person to become Coco’s new owner.
A year after her rescue, Coco looks unrecognizable and happier than ever in the arms of an animal lover from Germany.
“[She] has a beautiful home and she is currently on vacation. I get pictures regularly — they’re at sea right now. Every rescued dog from the street who finds a home is a victory for me,” Goran concluded.
