A trainee accountant made plenty of people’s heads turn after she reportedly won a lawsuit worth £13,000 for being fired as she left in an emergency to pick up her sick child.
The accountant was identified as Catherine Henderson who says that she received an emergency message from her young child’s school about how the student was not feeling well. She was reportedly asked to come and get her child by the nearest time as she was ill and needed to be taken home immediately.
On that note, the mother did not think twice. Without any hesitation, she got up and decided to leave, without worrying about the consequences of those actions at work. Moreover, at that time, there were also no other managers available at her workplace too. Hence, the mum had to think fast on her feet as time was running out.
Therefore, she quickly opted to inform her other colleagues about the emergency situation and decided to head out the door. But little did she know that her actions would result in a direct termination from her workplace.
All of her bosses referred to her decision as very unprofessional and called the early exit a moment of sheer and utter ‘gross misconduct.
’ Moreover, they opted to send out a letter to her regarding her immediate dismissal, the tribunal heard.
And this was just after a period of four days after she was signed off from her job with the excuse of stress. But the mother decided to fight back and take her case to court because she felt that she was not at fault.
Referring to their decision as unfair dismissal, Catherine began to argue with great success and fight her case.
In the end, her great efforts did not go to vain as she received £13,000 from a hearing that was recently conducted in Scotland.
