‘Saved by the Bell’ actor Dustin Diamond has tragically passed away at the age of 44 just weeks after he was diagnosed with cancer.
The American actor, director, and stand-up comedian who was best known for playing Samuel ‘Screech’ Powers in the sitcom Saved by the Bell was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer just three weeks ago.
Now, shortly after the actor was taken to a Florida hospital to start chemotherapy, Diamond’s representative announced that the 44-year-old had died.
“He was diagnosed with this brutal, relentless form of malignant cancer only three weeks ago. In that time, it managed to spread rapidly throughout his system; the only mercy it exhibited was its sharp and swift execution,” the representative’s statement reads.
“Dustin did not suffer. He did not have to lie submerged in pain. For that, we are grateful.”
Along with the heartbreaking announcement, the rep also pointed out that Diamond was a “high-spirited” individual who wanted to make people laugh despite having some run-ins with the authorities.
“We want the public to understand that he was not intentionally malevolent. He -much like the rest of those who act out and behave poorly – had undergone a great deal of turmoil and heartache,” the statement added.
“His actions, though rebukeable, stemmed from loss and the lack of knowledge on how to process that pain properly.
“In actuality, Dustin was a humorous and high-spirited individual whose greatest passion was to make others laugh. He was able to sense and feel other peoples’ emotions to such a length that he was able to feel them too – a strength and a flaw, all in one.”
Besides his role in Saved by the Bell, the 44-year-old actor added a series of credits to his name by appearing in various shows including Celebrity Fit Club, Celebrity Big Brother, and Celebrity Boxing 2.
May he rest in peace.
