Oscar winner Jeff Bridges has opened up about his devastating diagnosis and revealed he’s starting his treatment.
The 70-year-old actor, producer, and singer is best known for his roles in popular movies including The Big Lebowski, True Grit, and Crazy Heart – the 2009 drama film that landed the movie star on the list of winners of the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2010.
In a Monday tweet, Bridges revealed he was diagnosed with lymphoma, a rare type of blood cancer. While the actor admitted “it is a serious disease,” he insisted that “the prognosis is good.”
“As the Dude would say.. New S**T has come to light,” the Starman actor wrote.
“I have been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Although it is a serious disease, I feel fortunate that I have a great team of doctors and the prognosis is good.
“I’m starting treatment and will keep you posted on my recovery.”
The 70-year-old Oscar winner added:
“I’m profoundly grateful for the love and support from my family and friends.
“Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. And, while I have you, please remember to go vote. Because we are all in this together. Love, Jeff.”
The devastating diagnosis comes amid the actor’s involvement in the upcoming thriller series The Old Man. Besides starring in the TV series that is based on Thomas Perry’s novel of the same name, Bridges is also contributing to its development as one of the executive producers.
In addition to winning the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in Crazy Heart, Bridges was a Best Actor nominee for Starman in 1985 and True Grit in 2011.
Bridges was also a Best Supporting Actor nominee for several movies including The Last Picture Show, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, The Contender, and Hell or High Water.
Sending prayers for the actor’s quick recovery!
