Actor Wilford Brimley, who became a renowned Quaker Oats pitchman, died at the age of 85 at his home in Utah according to TMZ.
As the outlet reported, the 85-year-old star, who appeared in movie hits such as Cocoon, The Natural, The Firm, and The China Syndrome, died following days of treatment at an intensive care unit.
According to the news site, Brimley, who served in the Marines Corps from 1953 to 1956, was on dialysis during the final stage of his life.
In a tribute to the TV star who added 77 credits to his resume, Lynda Bensky, his manager, said:
“Wilford Brimley was a man you could trust. He said what he meant and he meant what he said. He had a tough exterior and a tender heart.
“I’m sad that I will no longer get to hear my friend’s wonderful stories. He was one of a kind.”
Paying respects to the legendary actor, who became the face of Quaker Oats food campaigns and commercials, was also his talent agent who dubbed Brimley “a wonderful man.”
“He was a wonderful man, a joy to be around, and his dry sense of humor and iconic voice left an ever-lasting impression on every person he met,” Dominic Mancini said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“I was lucky to call him a friend. To know Wilford, was to love Wilford. He had an amazing career, and sliced through the screen with his dry wit, stoic stature, and powerful conveyance.
“His unique blend of unexpected comedy and indelible storytelling will always remain unmatched.”
Besides his contributions to the country and the film industry, Brimley also became well-known for advocating education related to diabetes following his diagnosis with the disease in 1979.
