Adam Shankman Will Be Directing The Sequel of Halloween Film, Hocus Pocus


Hocus Pocus was released in 1993, with Bette Midler (as Winifred), Kathy Najimy (as Mary) and Sarah Jessica Parker (as Sarah) starring.

The film premised in the year 1693 when these three killed a young girl in order to absorb her youth.

As a punishment, they were hung till death in Salem, Massachusetts. Before dying, a curse was cast by them, according to which they would be resurrected. Then in 1993, Max (a young boy played by Omri Katz) moved to Salem and, after 300 years, freed the women.

The film came out almost 3 decades ago and now Disney+ is planning to produce the sequel to the film with Adam Shankman as the director.

The cast members of the first part are not involved yet but everyone is hoping that they soon get attached to the film, as disclosed by the trade magazine.

Also, the trio has shown their interest in a reboot, over the years. The most interested one seems to be Midler, as in 2014 at a Reddit AMA, she cheered her fans to flood Disney company with the sequel requests.

Even Parker said that reunion with her sisters would make her happy. In an Instagram comment, she mentioned that they were just waiting for instructions as they were all set for a follow-up. To which, some fan enquired about the sequel and Sarah replied, ‘we have all said yes. Now we wait.’

The director, Adam Shankman has worked on various hits like Step Up, Hairspray and A Walk to Remember. He recently also worked on What Men Want.

The film wasn’t initially a hit at the box office but gained immense popularity. After 16 years of release, in 2009, it performed well on TV by getting 2.5 million viewers and in 2011, it gained 2.8 million views on TV.
