Beaux Tox is an unfortunate dog who was born with a deformed face.
The Labrador Retriever led a painful life full of neglect and rejection until he met his savior and soulmate, Jamie Hulit.
The unique facial deformity of Beaux happened because he was squashed as one of six pups in the womb of his mother. “He just kind of got pushed out of the way, and formed how he formed,” Jamie told The Dodo.
And this wasn’t the only case of being pushed around for the poor dog since he led a neglected life from the time of his birth.
But, despite his deformity, Beaux had a bubbly personality and was as intelligent as the rest of his siblings.
“Because of his facial deformity, the people who were breeding couldn’t sell him,” Jamie explained. “So they gave him away for free.”
So, the poor dog ended up with a heartless man who used to neglect him and leave him outside, all alone. The abuse continued for five years until the local rescue groups intervened. But, by then, Beaux had turned into a weak, sad and diseased dog.
It was when his savior, Jamie, found him. She was moved to see the desperate state of the poor dog and, after learning his story, she decided to adopt him.
“I didn’t care how badly he might be ill,” she said. “I just didn’t want him to go into the foster system again and be returned.”
“I wanted him to have stability and a place he knew was his home. That is why I adopted him outright from the owner. Beaux Tox had already bounced around and I just wanted him to be a dog.”
Jamie had lived in a foster home herself that’s why she, more than anyone else, knew the state Beaux had been in. She was aware of how it feels to be rejected and be passed around to different families.
Beaux was intensively treated by Dr. Jay Rydberg who is a heroic vet dedicated to saving the mistreated innocent souls. Dr. Rydberg worked tirelessly and thanks to his efforts, Beaux was able to get back to the normal life.
The poor dog was saved just in time, otherwise, he may have lost his life to the chronic condition caused by heartworms. Finally, after his treatment, Beaux was able to go home with his kind owner.
Now, the dog is living a perfectly happy life with another Retriever named Riley. The two of them bonded well and have now become the best of friends.
“Riley and Beaux absolutely love each other,” Jamie says about the duo.
“They’re perfect for each other even with the age difference (Beaux is 6 and Riley 13) and even though Beaux acts like a puppy — it helps Riley stay young.”
Despite leading a life full of hardships, Beaux knows how to enjoy and make his owner smile.
“He’s so full of life,” Jamie said. “And he’s just brought so much to us.”
It is people like Jamie who restore our faith in humanity. Thank you, Jamie, for giving Beaux a life, he deserved the most!
