On Tuesday, Feb 25th the Walt Disney World‘s Animal Kingdom welcomed a new member to their family.
It was a tiny porcupine who was born to his mother Peri.
The mother porcupine named Peri had appeared in the One Day at Disney where a vet was performing an ultrasound on her. The baby porcupine is one month old now but is yet to be named.
Dr. Mark Penning, the vice president of Disney Parks’ animals, science, and environment maintenance wrote in Disney Park Blog post on Tuesday “we are delighted to welcome a new member to our family after a long-awaited arrival.”
Although Florida Park is closed to the public due to the coronavirus outbreak, the caretakers are still working. The caretakers of the park are giving top-notch care to the animals at the time of crisis too.
He wrote that the porcupine who is just born has a red stunning fur coat. The porcupette is still a baby and is not prickly yet. His thorns will harden with time as it grows up. He wrote that the team was even able to identify its sex after DNA testing its quills.
On the other side, Disneyland California has been donating the reserved food they would have sold in the park as the lockdown will extend to another month most probably.
Taking the analysis of crisis the park decided to donate whatever they could that would otherwise rot and go to waste. The park has pledged to reduce food waste.
The entire world is struggling right now and the low wage workers are the ones who are suffering the most. With the lack of food and even shelter to some, the donations are the only thing that can help them survive.
