It’s often surprising just how much apes display certain behaviors that are so human-like.
Then again, it shouldn’t be so surprising since apes are quite close to humans in terms of evolution. While the magic link definitely tying in apes as being the ancestors of humans hasn’t been found yet, it’s generally accepted that the similarities between species are strikingly close enough.

In the clip, we see an older baboon patiently watching over a pair of enthusiastic baboon youngsters as they cavort and play, even though their play sometimes takes them right smack in the older baboon’s face.
But like any human dad who’s taking his kids to the theme park, the older baboon takes it all in stride even when one branch accidentally smacks him in the face.
In fact, he just grabs the branch and pulls it to the side, all while cheerfully chewing on that leaf he’s been munching on that whole time.
If there was a dad of the year award among baboons, this guy would probably have won it hands down!Baboons tend to be inquisitive and playful and this manifests most strongly when they are young (as with most creatures). This is why they exhibit all the boisterousness of youth and just run and jump without a care in the world.
In contrast, the adult baboon accompanying them moves in a measured and stately manner knowing that there is really no need to hurry and probably wondering what all the fuss is about among these youngsters.
Again, the parallels that one can draw between this and how humans tend to interact with each other is striking.
Nearly every parent can sympathize with the challenges of keeping watch over a pair of overenthusiastic kids who are just running around jumping at everything and displaying a curiosity that sometimes puts them in danger if you’re not careful.
But it’s really important for the young of this world to go out and explore because it forms a large part of their early education. Learning things from the classroom or being told something is one thing but experiencing something brings a level of understanding that mere words cannot. This is as true for adults as it is for kids. Put simply, you can read about swimming in a book but you can’t really say you know how to swim until you actually jump into a pool.
