An upset veteran who lost his legs while serving in Afghanistan has revealed how the Taliban takeover makes him feel.
32-year-old Jack Cummings is a British bomb disposal expert who was in a coma for a month after losing both of his legs to an IED blast while serving in Afghanistan.
Following the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, the veteran opened up about his feelings as he suggested that his comrades died in vain.
“Was it worth it, probably not. Did I lose my legs for nothing, looks like it. Did my mates die in vain. Yep. Many emotions going through my head, anger, betrayal, sadness to name a few,” Cummings wrote in his Twitter post after the Western forces retreated from the country.
The heartbroken veteran also spoke to Sky News and told the publication that the takeover of Kabul and the majority of the country left him lost for words.
As Cummings insisted, he risked his life while serving in the country only to see it “go up in smoke” just weeks after the United States and the United Kingdom withdrew their forces.
“Just how easy the Taliban have taken over the country, I’m just lost for words. Seeing the events unfold in Afghanistan, just heartbreaking and devastating to see. The country I fought in and fought for has just gone up in smoke like that,” the 32-year-old said.
Though the veteran said he understands why foreign troops could no longer remain in the country, he insists that watching the Taliban return to power so quickly simply doesn’t “feel right.”
Despite everything that’s happened, however, Cummings remains proud of his service to his country.
